diversamente coding is proud to be taking part in EU Code Week once again! Our online train the trainer event from 19 – 23 October is one of thousands of activities taking place throughout Europe (and the rest of the world). During our event, Deaf and hearing trainers will learn more about our coding training methodology, showcasing the fact that coding is for everyone – including people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

EU Code Week is a grassroots initiative, which aims to bring coding and digital literacy to everybody in a fun and engaging way.

Learning to code helps us to make sense of the rapidly changing world around us, expand our understanding of how technology works, and develop skills and capabilities in order to explore new ideas and innovate.

The current lock-down means that digital literacy is more important than ever.

diversamente coding e-learning platform is ready and the partnership is now working on the contents  which include multilingual educational materials (tutorials, videos, documents, links, articles and useful tips).

We are using Scratch to introduce coding to the target group – but what is Scratch?

Scratch is a programming language, developed by the MIT Media Lab and released in 2007. Scratch 3.0 is a great tool for introducing coding to all ages. Scratch can be used when developing various multimedia projects such as: video games, interactive storytelling, animations, and graphical artwork.

Scratch is particularly good for working with Deaf learners because it uses visual tools (graphic coding blocks) which represent commands. The learner simply snaps the blocks together in order to create various effects.

Scratch is a fun way to introduce learners to basic coding, and at the same time, playing to the visual strengths of Deaf learners.

Person-to-person activities are not currently possible but online, everything is possible! You can enrol and test our diversamente coding courses at https://diversamente-academy.eu/.

Currently, the courses are only available in English but follow us on Facebook or Instagram and you will be the first to know when German, Greek, Italian and Spanish go live.
